When should someone see a therapist?
There is no good or bad time to see a therapist. People seek therapy for a variety of reasons. Therapy is a good place to plan and develop coping skills proactively. It can help you to improve self-esteem, self-confidence and speed up your healing.
I have found that people reach out for the support of a therapist when they are going through life transitions such as going to university, getting married, live with pain or illness, or a significant loss. A therapist can help people to problem solve, assist with identifying strengths and to practice new skills and strategies for dealing with life challenges. It is a place where people can regain a sense of hope and direction in their lives. It can help people to create change and construct possibilities where they did not exist.
Working with a therapist can support an overall feeling of wellness. Wellness can be defined as being healthy both physically and emotionally. That being said, therapy is used to help people feel healthy, achieve their potential and make their good lives even better.
Therapy sessions will focus on the issues that you have identified that you are struggling with. I help people to recognize their strengths and develop different perspectives on their situation. We will have a conversation about what has been happening and we will work together to create change that allows you to cope more effectively with life’s challenges. I believe that you are the expert in your life, and I work to support you to achieve your goals by helping to connect your thoughts and behavior, to habits and patterns. I will encourage you to explore different strategies when approaching difficult situations, and I can teach you new skills to help you navigate change.
Whether you are seeking long-term therapy or a single session consultation about a life situation, I welcome you to contact me with any questions you may have.
